Description |
This project involved the refurbishment of an historic 9m span masonry arch bridge. This listed structure was believed to have been a Thomas Telford design and following vehicle damage, significant remedial works were needed. The fill to the arch had to be carefully removed and replaced with new mass concrete infill, poured in layers to avoid distorting the shape of the arch. Damaged sections of the parapet, spandrel walls and wingwalls had to be rebuilt. Repointing of the masonry abutments, arch soffit, walls etc followed using lime mortar. Waterproofing and surfacing works were completed to finish the project, allowing the section of road to re-open. |
